Energy Cafe at Strawberry Fayre

Spitalfields City Farm, Buxton Street, E1 5AR

Energy Cafe has been invited by Spitalfields City Farm to run two workshops with a core team aged between sixteen and twenty five years.

what is growing there? Its abundant at the farm. calling all those aged between 16 and 25 years to run Energy Cafe for a day!

join the tour  to make a spitalfields city farm food map that plots all the produce growing on the farm –  including wild food that grows on the perimeter . There’s wild rocket, dandelion and blackberries a plenty .  With the findings of what is seasonal and ready to be harvested – an imaginative menu for strawberry Fayre will be created .

During the day The Coriander Club will be cooking up  – whilst demonstrating traditional Bangladeshi rural cooking methods.

Building A Wind Turbine Course by V3 Power
Hosted by Energy Cafe & Organic Lea

Weekend of 21st & 22nd May 2011
9.00am – 6.00pm

Hawkwood Plant Nursery, Chingford E4 7UH

During this weekend course V3 Power will be teaching how to build a 1.2m diameter, 12V turbine along with tower and electrical system for Energy Cafe.

You will get direct and significant hands-on experience carving turbine blades, wiring copper coils, soldering the stator, constructing the magnet rotors and welding the metal frame. By the end of the weekend you will have gained a good working knowledge of how to make a ‘Hugh Piggott’ turbine. V3 courses are suitable for people without any prior engineering or practical experience who are keen to learn something completely new, and for people with loads of engineering experience wanting to get hands on with wind turbines. The fact that V3 have one instructor per 4 participants means they can ensure everyone is getting what they want from the course.

The fee includes local produce lunches prepared at Energy Cafe. We can provide details of campsites nearby if you need accommodation.

The new Energy Cafe is to be unveiled in public space! The hand-crafted and fully functioning mobile kitchen will be parked up outside Prick Your Finger London’s legendary haberdashery. Joining their Christmas celebration and the opening of an exhibition by Gina Birch from the Raincoats.

Energy Cafe will be serving seasonal mulled wine and spiced locally-brewed cider with home-made mince pies… bringing a little taste of the countryside to the big city.

Please bring a stick, small log, or piece of untreated wood, no bigger that 10×4″ to feed the stove.

Wind Turbine & Solar Hot Water: Collective Experiment!
Would you like to build a wind turbine? Or make a solar hot water heater?

We will begin designing and building a vertical axis wind turbine and a solar water heater with David Herbert. The ad hoc designs will depend on the materials we can gather…check the list and please bring something with you!

Maps provided – the aim is to source as much locally grown food as possible (including wild food) gather back at site with findings to cook up a sunset dinner.
